Parent Watching Week
March 2-8 is your chance to come and observe your child’s dance classes. We encourage all parents, grandparents and other family members or friends to come and see what our students have been working on so far this year. You might even get a sneak peak at their choreography-in-process for the year-end recital! Siblings are welcome to come, as long as they can sit quietly and not disturb the class. All Lyrical Worship classes will be open for observation for the last 15 minutes only. Lost and Found Items We have a small box outside the ballet studio that has an assortment of hoodies, waterbottles and will have a rehearsal Tuesday, March 18th from 10:30-11:30. We hope everyone has a great holiday and some restful time with family and friends. AttendanceAs we are gearing up and preparing for our 2014 performance season, punctual and consistent attendance is of utmost importance in all classes. If a student misses more than 3 classes between now and their first performance, they may not be able to perform onstage. Each dance is a team effort that requires commitment to one another. If a student is sick or injured but well enough to sit and watch (and not contagious), please have them come and observe their class. And if a student must miss class for whatever reason, please be sure to email your child’s teacher and let them know. Festival Performances 2014 Some of our older dancers perform each spring in both local dance festivals, and we encourage everyone in the studio to make it out and watch! This is a great opportunity for younger students to watch some of the best dancers from all over the island and Lower Mainland perform, compete and be adjudicated by guest judges. There will be performances in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Musical Theatre and it is a very inspiring experience for both dancers and parents. Check out the links here for dates and information: Danceworks Festival Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival Year End Recital at the Claremont Ridgehouse Theatre Be sure to book your calendars for our dress rehearsal and performance dates (below). NOTE: We have not heard from many families yet regarding fulfilling volunteer roles. If you have not signed up for a job yet, please reply to this email by March 4th with your preference. After that date we will be contacting any families we have not yet heard from. Thank you in advance for your invaluable assistance in helping our studio provide an affordable and positive experience for all. Volunteer Needs: As per our studio policies, each family is required to complete 4 volunteer hours per year of dance. This helps us to keep our administration and costuming costs way down, plus it helps you get to know the teachers and other parents in our community! There are many upcoming opportunities for parents to fulfill this responsibility, so please take a look at the list below, see where you might fit in and email Tracey at tracey@victoriadanceonit.com to let her know how you would like to be involved! 1) Costumes – anything from cutting out patterns or making hairpieces to sewing full costumes (there is a job for every skill level!) 2) Props – creating or collecting necessary prop pieces 3) Administration for Recital – ticket selling, backstage help, creating the program, organizing flower sales etc. Important DatesParent Watching Week: March 3-8, 2014 Spring Break: March 10-22, 2014 Good Friday and Easter Monday : ALL CLASSES WILL RUN AS SCHEDULED Dress Rehearsal: May 26, 2014 (3:30-6:30 pm) Year End Recital: May 28-30 (5:00-8:00 pm)
